My hubby needs a hobby. He loves boats and wood. Anyone ever crafted their own wooden boat? How long does it take and how much money are we talking about? Razz

Obviously it depends upon the size of the boat. My advice is to first start with a small one. Take a look at the kits that are offered. They sort of provide a road map to completing the project. Here's a link:

Ah, The age old inquiry. Build your own boat(or not).

There have been many people that I have known over the years that decided one day that the best thing to do was to build their own boat.

Most of these "Summer" projects have been know to turn into a decade of
weekends and nights. However the end result (If you can keep your marriage, and Wallet in tact), will keep your waining years full of travel and great experiences. You will meet and talk to more "EXPERTS" than you can shake a belaying pin at, that know everything, and if you believe all that they tell you you will become so confused that your bow will look more like than stern and visa versa.

However , never fear , if you do your home work, READ,READ,READ. The real experts that have been really building and maintaing for years can and will be of great help........Good Luck and Safe Sailing.

Why not buy him a "project boat"? You can pick one up just about anywhere!!!!! Razz

Just think of the days of work he could do on the "project" while actually using it!

For under $2500 you can find a working boat of under 25 feet. Look on Craig's List or pick up the local "nickle", especially now.

Almost anything he could possibly need to fix it can be bought online at Go2marine.com
