Hello all. I have a 1978 Johnson 115 model number 115ETL78. I was out cruising full speed a few weekends ago and I noticed the tachometer stopped working. Then I noticed the volt gauge start to fall off. At WOT the battery gauge was near 16v and when the tach stopped working the voltage dropped to 12v. So I came to the conclusion something with the charge system crapped out. I ordered another rectifier because the original one wasn't making sense when trying to test it with the ohm meter per the troubleshooting tips in the manual. Put the new rectifier on and still no charge, tach doesn't work. So then I put a new CDI stator on the engine and still no charge and no tach. Then I tried the new stator with the old rectifier, still nothing. Looking at the diagram in the engine manual, this is a very simple charging system and now I am stuck wondering why I still have no charge and no tach. (Tach does have power). There is a tiny 32V 20A fuse port side of the motor on the red/purple wire. That fuse is good. Are there any other fuses in the charging system? Even if a charge fuse was blown, shouldn't the tach still be receiving a signal from the grey wire? Very confused, hope it's something easy I am overlooking.
