Our prop has a few small chips out of it (less than half an inch).

Does this effect performance greatly? Is it worth changing over the prop?

Ok, the short answer is yes - and no.

You did not say how big a prop, but a couple chips out of a 22" slow turning prop will be affected substantually less than a 8.5" prop that is turning high speed!

So the short answer is this - for the short term, a couple of chips missing will make little difference although it will incease in turbulance and vibration.

A chipped prop on a 9.9 motor used on a tender while going to shore is a common site when cruising. A four bladed prop used to pull skiers will want to maintain the performance - without chips missing.
