I recently purchased a used 2004 Mercury O/B 60HP ELPTO. This engine was used in a high altitude enviroment (Above 2500') and I need to re-jet the carbs for a low altitude enviroment (Below 2500') but I am not sure which jets I need to use. There are two available for this engine. I assume the .058 is for high altitude and the .060 is for low altitude but I'm not sure.

Mercury Part# 1395-7831 WME-57 .058

OR

Mercury Part# 1395-6487 WME-58 .060

Bigger jet for lower altitude. Nice and easy rule....

Now if you want to look at a detailed explanation - this was written for those of us who mess with jetting all the time - the old days of the VW aircooled.

there is, however, not much of a difference between those two jets! Now the complex - if your engine is older, carbon buildup, you want to use the smaller jet.
