I have a 1984 Mercruiser 454 that I am trying to replace the impeller on. I removed the raw water pump from the port engine and opened it up to look at the impeller. The rubber on the impeller had melted off the metal core and was clumped in one area of the housing. I was able to get all the rubber out, but the metal core will not come off the shaft. Does this mean I have to disassemble the entire housing? The housing is a metal housing not the plastic housing. Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Try penetrating oil and then a little heat to the sleeve. It should come off fairly easy. Cool
