Ok, sounds - in text are one of the harder things...

So, is it a 'single clunk' like when you shift it? Clunking that has a light metal sound? Rumbling?

Is the 'clunking' rhythmic to the rpm of the engine then?

Be as accurate as you can here.

The other thing - pick up a mechanics stethoscope and listen to the insides of the engine. I am suspecting near the crank. You can also listen to it and see if there is a ‘rumble’ that would indicate bearing wear

ok the sound only in neutral and in gear at low speed you give it a little gas it goes away no sounds at higher rpm but the clunking is not to a beat it goes clunk.........................clunk..........clunk...................................................................clunk.....................clunk i work on 2 stroke motors alot build them and all this sounded like a bearing or maybe crank but i figuered it was not to the rpm of the motor but i will check this the sound you feel in the boat not hard but you feel it the boat smokes not alot but normal for a 2stroke is there any thing that could make it feel that way in the jet drive please help like i said the thing screams alittle slugish with 2 adults and 2 kids a little ruff at idle and needs to have gas up on the control or it just wont stay running when you start it but after it's warm stays running no problem

You my have a bad lower unit clunk could travel up the drive shaft making clunk sound like crank shaft.not a steady clunk chances are it the lower unit. Remove lower unit run motor see if its gone.Dont run any longer than a minute or so. Dont whant to over heat. Or put a garden hose on the pick up tube then you can run it all day.DVDDAVE
