I've been fishing in Hawaii for over 50 years, born in Honolulu. The past 30 years have been in Kona, mostly deep sea. Now that I'm retired I go out as often as possible. The size of ahi (tuna) has definitely dropped off. Years ago it was common to catch ahi over 200 pounds but now it's pretty rare. Lately we've been pretty lucky catching ono (wahoo) while trolling. This year the live bait fishing is not too good. I was lucky enough to get a 125 lb. ahi couple weeks ago. I hope everyone else has good luck fishing.

From - Fisheries and marine resources of Hawaii and the U.S.-associated Pacific Islands: an introduction. (Fisheries of Hawaii and U.S.-associated Pacific Islands)
From: Marine Fisheries Review

Even historically, there has been a predicted decline for years around the Hawaiian Islands! Management and fishing styles are/were the main issue - just as they are in the Pacific Northwest and indeed, around the world.

The largest Mid-ocean island group (in the largest ocean) is an indicator that should not be ignored. There can be little blame on sewers, logging and the other “continent” based factors for the decline in fishing and the size of fish.
