Someone was talking about synthetic bait and all I need is chicken. I use it overnight in round pots and square pots. And it works with tethering pots that you gotta tend. I am usually in 35 to 50 feet of water and I set the ring trap before or after the slack water by about an hour and then pull it up after a 20 minute soak. All there is too it. Any other baits that work? Please let me know but in the meantime its chicken for me.

My thanks to Sam55, I tried the chicken and it is simple to store and works great. Plus I don't have to look all over for the bait ahead of time, I usually have some onboard anyway.

I am also a believer in Chicken (although when cruising I used fish heads). My favorite trick is to freeze the chicken after you pack it into a bait cup, then use that - the 'smell', meaning the bait, lasts longer.

As an emergency backup, we carried cans of chicken cat food while cruising just to use with traps! Just punch a couple holes in the can and drop it in a trap!
